The Challenge that Took Flight
In collaboration with Render Weekly and WOMP, we launched a community design challenge centered on the birdhouse. From floating birdhouses for ducks to sculptural nests shaped like eggs, the creativity we saw was incredible. Each design pushed past what’s expected and showed what happens when imagination meets the right tools.
At Vizcom, our mission has always been to help designers bring ideas to life faster. To make imagination tangible. And this challenge captured that spirit perfectly.
The Submissions
Hundreds of submissions transformed a common backyard object into floating homes for ducks, sculptural nests, and imaginative habitats that blurred the line between design and art. The challenge showcased what’s possible when creativity meets the right tools—and how quickly an idea can move from sketch to render to real.
The winners
Five standout designs were selected for their creativity, craft, and narrative, and brought to life as physical objects in partnership with Womp—proving that even the simplest prompt can take flight.
- DUCKHOUSE — by Germain Verbrackel (paradigm): reimagined the birdhouse as a floating habitat designed specifically for ducks, blending function with a playful twist on scale and setting.
- KASA — by Edwin Tanu: explored architectural simplicity, presenting a refined, house-like form that feels both familiar and modern.
- EGGY NEST — by Felixander Yuan: took inspiration from nature itself, creating a sculptural, egg-shaped nest that feels organic, protective, and minimal.
- CERAMIC NEST — by Léo Crespin: highlighted materiality, using ceramic to elevate the birdhouse into a tactile, handcrafted object.
- POLE — by Ward Mertens: proposed a modular, vertical birdhouse system designed to integrate seamlessly into outdoor environments.
