SHED

Ujjwal Rathore

SHED reimagines everyday mules as a durable, sustainable essential by tackling their most common failure point—the worn-out tread, which often leads to premature disposal. Inspired by the rattlesnake’s ability to shed its skin, it features a regenerative tread system where a new hexagonal pattern emerges with wear, extending the product’s lifespan without compromising comfort. The design unites durability, modularity, and a clean, terrain-inspired visual language for conscious, design-forward users.

The idea was sparked by a personal experience of slipping in my daily mules after their tread wore flat, forcing me to discard an otherwise functional pair. This led me to rethink how the tread could last as long as the mule itself, turning to nature for solutions—particularly snakes and their ability to shed and regenerate. The harsh, rugged nature of the desert further guided the design, with the rattlesnake inspiring the top curve pattern, derived from the form of its rattle
