The design keeps the standard mule open back but leans hard into the manufacturing methods abilities with flowing curves and a spiky toe-box. So much of design is material or process reliant and therefore a lot of traditional mule design is based on the constraints of leather. I wanted to utilise 3D printing to the max even using a modify node asking to adapt my then final design to be more 3D printing friendly. This has led to a Mule that shows its design process, Vizcom and Zellerfield.
I have previously made 3d printed footwear so drew on these experiences alongside a love for avant-garde fashion. Making a TPU Mule automatically makes me think of crocs and subverting that with the form of my submission into something that is more of a statement to wear excites me.
